Finn had arrived early at his parents’ house, wanting to make sure everything was perfect. He told himself it was because he didn’t want to have to rush getting Phoenix ready and that his mother might need help with the food, but that wasn’t the truth. Aurora was about to meet his entire family. It was a pressure he’d never experienced before.

He got Phoenix out of the car, along with his diaper bag. For such a small person, he sure required a lot of equipment. His feelings toward Aurora were completely different from any relationship he’d been in before. He’d brought a girl or two home for dinner when he was a teenager. It’d made him nervous, but now, the stakes were much higher.

This wasn’t just a cute girl he wanted to take to the movies. Finn was a father, and he couldn’t take relationships that lightly anymore. With Aurora, it was impossible to take it lightly, anyway. She was beautiful, on the inside as well as the outside. She always had something fascinating to say, and even if she thought someone might not agree with her, it never seemed to stop her from expressing her true feelings. He felt a deep connection with her, something he couldn’t explain.

And of course, this poor woman wasn’t just meeting his family. She was meeting an entire clan of dragons. Everyone was planning to be there. His parents, his aunts and uncles, his cousins, and even Lucia’s family of dragons, who had come through a portal from Charok about a year ago. He hadn’t yet figured out how to explain them. Lucia’s biological son was Callan, but she’d practically raised her nephews, Archard and Kieran, as well. Finn’s cousin Kaylee was now married to Archard, and Nora was in a serious relationship with Kieran. That certainly made them family, but Finn couldn’t fool himself into thinking it was typical.

“Finn! I’m glad you’re here! Come help me get his beast out of the oven!” Leah called from the kitchen.

Finn strode in and set Phoenix’s car seat on the floor before grabbing a few pot holders and removing the ham from the oven. “Um, Aurora doesn’t eat meat.”

“I know that, silly. I listen when you tell me things. I made sure there are plenty of veggies, and I even did my research to make sure there was a vegan-friendly protein on the table.” She smiled as she reached out to touch his cheek, a few soft wrinkles crinkling at the corners. It was because of her blue eyes that everyone easily bought the idea of Leah being his biological mother. Of course, as far as Finn was concerned, she was.

“Is there anything I can do?” He eyed the massive amount of serving dished lined up on the countertop, waiting to go out on the table. His parents’ home was the perfect place for a full family get-together since it was so big. Out on the edge of town where it backed up to large, country
